Black is the new Black

Anyone who knows me would say I wear too much black. I don’t disagree entirely, but I wouldn’t say that it’s necessarily “too much”. Too much dessert makes you fat, too much alcohol makes you sloppy, too much of many good thing are bad- but too much black? That’s just ridiculous.

In an attempt to ward off the “all you wear is black” chatter I’ve recently purchased some “colorful” wardrobe items.  Some expensive silk tops, a few dresses, you can’t say you don’t like something until you try it right?  Well two months into warm weather and one pink dress worn, most of my “color” just sits in my closet. While it all looks nice and diversified hanging there, it will probably never actually be going onto this body and out the door. What can I say; I’m such a rebel. I think too much black is fantastic.

Save the color for my nails. Black makes me feel chic, thinner, ultra sexy and most importantly…. thinner. Purple, orange or pink will never be the new black. Black is reliable, consistent and never disappoints. Black is my new boyfriend. Black is the new black.

My newest favorite black top has an easy poncho like fit and can be worn off the shoulders. Simple, Sexy and $46 bucks! LOVE.  www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=JESX-WS1&c=James+%26+Joy

Getting Nailed: Your Best Fall Accessory

For as long as I can remember my nails were part of an important maintenance regime.  A few years ago a client, who thought I was a fashion genius for some reason, came to me freaking out about “Chanel Black Satin” nail polish. It was sold out everywhere and never coming back. It was in every fashion magazine. It was THE color to have. She was freaking out. She was freaking me out. I never even knew I wanted it until she couldn’t get it. Black nails were the hottest thing and Chanel was making it happen. NO other black, not Essie or Opi or Dior NOBODY could replicate Chanel Black Satin.  I could bore you with the entire story but I'll just skip to the end, eventually Chanel re-released Black Satin, I tried it and loved it and I have been OBSESSED with their nail polish ever since. It’s all I wear. I have converted many into true Chanel nail polish devotees and undoubtedly I will convert some of you.  It is absolutely worth the $25 price tag.  Repeat after me, it is absolutely worth…ok, I think you get the point.

Check out this GORGEOUS brand new limited edition Chanel shade from their Fall 2011 Collection “Graphite”. It’s an ultra shimmery metallic color with what I call “micro glitter” loaded into it. The first coat went on light and dull but the second coat created perfection.  Scoop this up. Now. It will sell out. And you will freak out. Your nails will be your best accessory this season.

*ps if you want a fun summer color that’s very wear now, try “Mimosa” it’s a beautiful sunshine yellow that goes perfectly with a tan!

Fashionable and Rational

So I recently realized that no matter how old and grown up you think you are, you are never too old to break down and cry (for no good reason).  Often times for me the “no good reason” is clothing related. After all, you are what you wear.  Doing laundry after my recent Vegas vacation I decided to throw in one of my favorite black tops. I had just worn it on vacation as a cover up to TAO Beach Day Club. I looked super cute. It looked great in all the pictures. I fell madly in love with this top from Summer ‘10 all over again. I came home from vacation and put it in a bag with my dry cleaning. I want to keep it like new forever. Splurging on dry cleaning for it seems like a good idea and in case you weren't paying attention earlier- it's one of my FAVORITE black tops. Anyway, one morning decided I could get away with machine washing it one last time: cold water wash, nice and gentle. I will hang dry it and just dry clean it next time. I had dinner plans the following night and I wanted to wear it. Ok fine. Machine buzzes. Wash done. I go to unload and everything is super tangled. How annoying. I attempt to undo this intricately tangled mess of wet black stuff, and feel a familiar fabric running through most of the mess. I start to realize that familiar fabric is my favorite shirt… in pieces. The top is everywhere, twisted and torn holding the wet laundry lump together. In HORROR, I attempt to retrieve the shirt from the knotted ball of clothes – waiting to discover something salvageable. But I don’t.

…SO I cry. Waterworks. Unable to speak. Unable to stop. After a while I decide that I am better than this, I need to pull myself together. I need to calm the fu@k down and try be logical for a minute. Breath. It's just a black shirt. I can live without it. So I do what any teary eyed completely rational and super intelligent girl would do in this situation. I googled it. And guess what? They made it again for Summer ’11!  So I ordered it and started the recovery process. I got the package this morning, the “new” top is perfect and now that my wardrobe has been repaired I found the strength to share my story. The lesson: Don't cry over spilled milk or ruined laundry, grow up and just google it. I think I might even order another one just to be safe.
